Creamy Steel-cut Oatmeal with Raisins

Based slightly on the general instructions of making steel-cut oatmeal. This makes four large servings.


  • 1 cup steel-cut oatmeal
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 cup water
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • any spice you want in the liquid, preferably large things like 1 cinnamon stick, 5 cardamom pods, etc
  • maple syrup


  1. Bring milk and water to a boil; be careful as it will spill over
  2. Immediately put in the oatmeal, raisins, and any spice you want
  3. Let it simmer for 35-40 minutes, covered at least mostly
  4. Serve with maple syrup
